Panayot Pipkov (1871-1942) was a Bulgarian composer, conductor, kapellmeister and music teacher, a representative of the so-called “First Generation” of Bulgarian composers.
Born in Plovdiv, he studied music in Milan and returned to Bulgaria to devote himself to musical creation and education.
His works include choral songs, operettas and music for children influenced by Bulgarian folklore.
He created the hymn “March ahed, revived people”, which became a symbol of the Day of Bulgarian Enlightenment and Culture (May 24th).
As an educator, he was actively involved in the introduction of music education in Bulgarian schools and participated in the writing of textbooks and curricula.
Panayot Pipkov remains an important figure in Bulgarian culture, whose creativity and contribution to education and national identity are still appreciated today.
