Thrace

These pendants, known as pendaries, have been incorporated into various forms of jewelry and accessories since the Thracian era, dating back to the 4th century BC. While the features and designs within them may differ, they are invariably connected through their common crescent silhouette. The development and application of these items can be followed continuously across the Bulgarian territories up until the 19th century. While the exact meaning of their symbolism remains somewhat ambiguous, there exists a consistent thread throughout the centuries, linking the Thracian artisans to the jewellers of the Bulgarian revival period.
